The natural history of horses
The horse was domesticated 6000 years ago or more. Initially, it seems destined for consumption, but was soon used also as a driving force and riding. Today, the horse is mainly used for riding, and despite the time elapsed still needs to be tamed. The reporter Pere Renom observes the natural horsemanship, less aggressive than traditional dressage system, able to dominate the animal without canceling or subject through fear. It also participates in the “Tria dels mulats” of Espinavell, a traditional livestock activity that consists in bringing together different groups of horses of the alpine meadows located in the regions of Conflent and Ripollès and separate the ponies (“mulats”) of their mothers for fattening and consumption. Finally Renom sees a polo match, a sport in which horses are pushed to the limit of their physical performance.
